Charity Update

Through the Guess the Sweets in the Jar we managed to raise a total of £40.63, the total number of sweets in the jar was 312 and the winner who guessed the closest guessed 315!
We have decided as a group that with the money we have raised from the competition we will use a portion to fund the rest of our charity events in hopes of raising even more money.

In our previous Wednesday session we discussed what our next charity event would be and have decided as a group the next four as follows; a giant name card consisting of teachers names which we will keep in college in hopes of peaking students interest, smaller name cards in which each member of our group will have to individually raise money, a QR code Easter egg hunt, and a sponge toss at teachers. We decided on these through our research questionnaires in which we found out what events students would most likely want to participate in, in hopes of finding out what will bring in the most donations.

CV/Cover Letter Masterclass

In our masterclass today we were asked to practice applying for jobs in the logistics sector by either, writing a CV, filling in an application form or write a cover letter. I chose to write a cover letter for the job of a transport supervisor, here's what I wrote:

" To Whom This May Concern

Re: Transport Supervisor

I am writing to apply for the position of Transport Supervisor at B&B Ltd.

I have over 5 years of experience within the transport and logistics industry. My transport experience includes extensive practical knowledge of the transport and distribution of various products by rail, road and sea. I have a full UK Driving License and I have also had my CPC training.

In my previous positions I have continually demonstrated my commitment to ongoing improvement of both services to clients and internal processes. I have undertaken extensive professional development, including Diplomas in both Education and Training. I have also previously ensured fleet compliance standards are up to standard and continuously improved whilst working collaboratively with stakeholders across the business to support improvements with cost, service & quality. "

I feel that after todays session I have a better understanding of covering letters as before this I had only done a CV and gone through applications.

Presentations

Unfortunately due to being ill I wasn't actually able to see everyone else's presentations however today I did see a message about ten minutes before our Career Ready meeting today that I would actually be delivering my presentation today with Kieran. So after a rush to go through a quick rehearsal we delivered our very improvised presentation whilst being recorded (which I imagine will be fun to watch back at a later date!) However despite the lack of organisation on our behalf I do think we delivered very well.

London - Day 2

Today I got to see Action Jackson at the Dominion Theatre for the second time and I can honestly say he just as much of an impact on me the second time round! He was able to motivate the whole crowd by getting everyone to chant "IM CAREER READY, YOU'RE CAREER READY, WE'RE CAREER READY, LETS GO!" Despite everyone being a little distracted from how fun and hilarious the whole experience was he really was motivating everyone to control of their lives. We also heard some very inspiring speeches from other people linked to the organisation.

After the Dominion Theatre we all moved along to Royal Mail for a masterclass on networking. I have always loved networking and meeting new people so I found this very interesting, especially learning about having an elevator pitch. I enjoyed learning a little about the history of Royal Mail however I think I would have liked to learn more.

All that aside we were still able to enjoy a nice walk around London and see some quite amusing street names before we had a very long coach journey home!

London - Day 1

Today we visited the Science Museum and had a very long walk around London!

We got to see Buckingham Palace where we had a group photograph taken and saw the guards,

I was able to get a great picture of Big Ben!

We had pizza at Pizza Express where my phone was 'stolen' and I came back to some very 'revealing' photographs.

Finally we had a walk around the beautiful Covent Gardens before heading back to hostel.

Capital Experience

Currently on the way to London! Traffic isn't looking too bad so should be there soon!
